Monster iceberg halts flights for the day!

Around mid-morning yesterday, one of my colleagues called me up to the Ops tower to come and have a look at the enormous iceberg that was gradually drifting around the southern tip of Rothera Point. By lunchtime it had completely blocked the end of the runway and we had to stop all flights. Fortunately we woke up this morning and it had been blown far enough away into the bay to be out of the way. It doesn’t happen at Heathrow!

The monster iceberg getting in the way. The Southern end of the runway is just visible on the right hand side of the photo.
