More seal action

We managed to get out on a boat last night, after a strong northerly wind blew all of the ice away that had been choking the wharf. It was a lovely, clear sunny evening, and there were lots of seals both in the water and lazily floating around on the floes. One of them was an absolutely enormous leopard seal, easily the biggest I’ve seen!

I’ve also added a couple more photos of our resident weddell seal pup, who is rapidly filling out some of those spare folds of skin.

Make no mistake – that is an awful lot of leopard seal. We also saw an understandably nervous-looking crabeater seal on a nearby floe…

Not exactly beautiful.

This is a different leop, smaller and younger, also lazing around on a nearby floe.

Our Weddell seal pup, looking a lot fatter than he did.
